If it’s Google-native, Looker Studio probably fits
If you’re running Google Ads or GA4 and still building performance reports in spreadsheets, the problem isn’t the data. Nothing connects it automatically. Google Looker Studio, formerly Google Data Studio, pulls directly from your sources, refreshes on its own schedule, and produces dashboards your team can open without asking anyone to update them.
Looker Studio consulting engagements are typically faster and lighter than people expect. The work ranges from single-channel PPC reporting to executive KPI views pulling from GA4, BigQuery, Google Ads, Search Console, and CRM exports in a single view. Most of the data sources available in Tableau are also available in Looker Studio, and the direct connector library removes a layer of pipeline work that other tools require. I take on fixed-scope projects or ongoing retainers, and, based in San Diego, California. I work remotely across the US, in every time zone and on US business hours.
A few dashboards I've built as personal projects
Anything I build for a business would stay private to that business, so these examples all use public data I can show in full. Each one uses the same approach I'd bring to a paid project: get the data model right first, then build a view that answers a real question and holds up when a team actually uses it.

Most freelancers build to your spec and hand it off. I spent years on the other side of the table: I owned the reporting, lived with the metric drift, and answered for the numbers when leadership asked. I build dashboards like someone who has had to stand behind them.
Is this the right fit?
Looker Studio is the right tool for some situations and the wrong one for others. If you're not sure which applies to you, that's a conversation worth having before committing to either platform.
This tends to work well if
- Your data is primarily in Google products: GA4, Google Ads, BigQuery, Search Console, or Google Sheets
- You want reports your whole team can open in a browser without installing or licensing any software
- You're working with a tighter budget or smaller technical team and Tableau's licensing and infrastructure overhead doesn't fit
- You want someone who can help you decide whether Looker Studio or Tableau is the better fit before the work starts
It’s probably not the right fit if
- You need complex analytical calculations that go beyond what Looker Studio's connector layer handles cleanly
- You're already invested in Tableau infrastructure and a migration doesn't make sense
- Your problem is primarily at the warehouse or pipeline layer, not the reporting layer (data architecture work comes first)
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Looker Studio the same as Google Data Studio?
Yes. Google renamed Data Studio to Looker Studio in 2022, it's the same free, Google-native reporting platform. I've built dashboards in it since the Google Data Studio days, so if you're searching for a Google Data Studio consultant, that's the same work.
How much does a Looker Studio consultant cost?
Pricing varies based on scope, project size, and time. I work remotely with no out-of-office expenses and no employees, which keeps overhead low. I provide a written quote before any work begins.
How do I decide between Looker Studio and Tableau?
The decision depends more on your company's tech stack, budget, staff capacity, and priorities than on a hard rule about which tool is better. I've worked with most of the same data sources in both platforms, and both perform well when the fit is right. What usually tips it is your existing infrastructure, what your team is already using, and what you can realistically support. I can help you work through what actually makes sense for your situation before any work starts.
Should I use Looker Studio or Power BI?
Both build shareable dashboards, so the choice comes down to where your data lives and how your team works. Looker Studio is the natural fit for Google-native stacks: it connects to GA4, Google Ads, BigQuery, and Sheets without a paid connector, and every recipient can view a report without a license. Power BI fits organizations already standardized on Microsoft, with data in SQL Server or Azure and teams that need heavier data modeling inside the tool. If your reporting is marketing and Google-sourced, Looker Studio is usually the lighter, lower-cost call. I will give you a straight recommendation on the first call.
What data sources can you connect in Looker Studio?
Most of the data sources available in Tableau are also available in Looker Studio, including Google Cloud products, CRM platforms, and enterprise data warehouse connections. GA4, Google Ads, BigQuery, Search Console, and Google Sheets have native connectors, and other sources connect through the connector library or via BigQuery as an intermediary. I've worked with all of these in both Looker Studio and Tableau.
What does a Looker Studio consulting engagement include?
I start with your data sources and reporting questions, design the logic behind the report, build the data blend or query that powers it, and deliver a finished dashboard your team can open, filter, and share without my help. A walkthrough of how the report works and how to make basic changes is included.
How is working with a Looker Studio consultant different from working with an agency?
An agency typically routes your project through a project manager, a strategist, and a developer across separate teams. You get one person who builds both the data layer and the dashboard and knows how the two connect. Fewer handoffs usually means faster turnaround and fewer gaps between what was requested and what gets built.
How long does a Looker Studio project take?
A single connected report, fully built and tested, typically takes one to three weeks. Projects involving data warehouse queries or blending data from multiple sources take longer, but most Looker Studio engagements finish faster than equivalent Tableau projects because the connector setup is simpler and publishing requires no server.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. I'm based in San Diego, California, and work remotely across the US, covering every time zone and keeping US business hours.
